How to make Red Tomato Gravy | Kulambu/Kadayal | Ideal For Idli Dosa and Chapati | Sidedish

Red Tomato Gravy/Kadayal, Nothing special; but a quick, easy healthy combo with idly, dosa, and chapati. A common recipe in south India. Tastes Yummy.

Ingredients:

Oil - 1 & Β½ tbsp

Mustard seeds - Β½ tsp

Chana dal - 1 tsp

Urad dal - ΒΌ tsp

Onion (Chopped) - 1 cup

Tomato (Chopped) - Β½ kg

Green chilli - 3-4

Salt - as per taste

Water - 1 Β½ cups

Sugar - 1 tsp (optional)

Curry leaves - 1 bunch

Preparation Method:

Note:- Easy to make, ideal for all age groups, especially babies, kids, elders, and senior citizens. Easy to digest, ideal for patients who suffer from several stomach disorders.

These are the three main ingredients for this recipe

I am using one big and a few small onions (You can use as per your choice)

In a Kadai, add 1 & Β½ tbsp of oil

Once heated, add Β½ tsp of mustard seeds,

1 tsp of chana dal,

ΒΌ tsp of urad dal and fry till golden brown

Then add 1 cup of Onion (Chopped) and fry for 2-5 minutes.

Once it gets fried,

Add Β½ kg of Tomato (Chopped) and mix well.

Note:- you can use any tomato desi or apple; use the ripped one. If you don't like the sour taste, then use apple tomatoes.

Add 3-4 slit green chili.

Salt as per taste

close with a lid, and cook for 5- 10 min.

Pour 1 Β½ cups of water mix well

Once the tomatoes become soft and cooked well, use a dal mixer or potato masher and mash the tomatoes to form a thick gravy.

Once done, garnish with fried ΒΌ tsp mustard seed and one bunch of curry leaves

Add 1 tsp of Sugar (optional), mix well and close with the lid.

Serve hot with idli, dosa, chapathi etc.

That's it. Your "red tomato kulambu" is ready.
