How to make Solkadhi | Kokum Kadhi at Home | Refreshing Kokum Drink | Tasty Ice Cold Sour Drink

The most popular and delicious beverage in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and Goa.

Solkadhi/Kokum Kadhi, is the most popular and delicious beverage in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and Goa, this savoury drink is made from coconut milk and kokum (the skin of the fruit. Murugal in Tamil tastes like tamarind with many health benefits). Which is a very refreshing and tasty drink, Absolutely Fabulous.

Ingredients:

Kokum - 10-12 pieces (one hand full)

Grated coconut - 1 Β½ cups

Warm water - 2 glasses

Garlic - 1-2 cloves (crushed)

Cumin powder (jeera powder) - Β½ tsp

Green chilli - 2

Salt - as per taste

Coriander (chopped) - 1 tbsp

Preparation Method:

In a pan, Pour one glass of water and bring it to a boil.

Note:- kokum is the skin of the fruit (murugal in Tamil) with many health benefits. tastes like tamarind, it is used mainly in Maharashtran food. (kokum Juice, sherbet, solkadi, and preferred substitute for tamarind in curries and other dishes.)

Once boiled, add 10-12 pieces(one hand full) of kokum and mix well.

Once cooked well, switch off the stove and close it with a lid. Keep it aside and let it cool.

Next, in a mixer jar, grind one and Β½ cups of grated coconut with one glass of warm water.

Note:- you can use normal water also, but warm water helps to extract more milk in less time.

Once grounded, nicely extract the milk in a bowl with a strainer and cheesecloth. You will get the first thick milk.

Again grind the coconut with one more glass of warm water and strain. Squeeze the cloth and remove the milk

add salt as per taste

1-2 cloves of crushed garlic

Β½ tsp of cumin powder (jeera powder), two green chilli

Then add kokum juice and mix well.

Last, add 1 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves.

Once done, close with a lid and refrigerate for 15 - 30 min. (you can also have it at room temperature)

This drink will go nice and healthy after a heavy, spicy meal. Serve cold, and enjoy.

That's it. Your refreshing "solkadhi" is ready.
