Mushroom Biryani is a delicious and aromatic vegetarian biryani made with basmati rice, fresh mushrooms, and flavorful Indian spices. This classic biryani is perfect for lunch boxes, family dinners, or special occasions 😍.

Ingredients
  • Basmati Rice – 1 cup (250 ml)

  • Oil – 2 tbsp

  • Ghee (Clarified Butter) – 2 tbsp

  • Coconut Oil – 1 tbsp

  • Bay Leaf (Tej Patta) – 1

  • Cinnamon (Dalchini) – 1 inch

  • Cloves (Laung) – 4

  • Star Anise (Chakra Phool) – 1

  • Mace (Jai Pathri) – 1

  • Black Stone Flower (Pathar Phool) – 1

  • Black Cardamom (Kali Elaichi) – 1

  • Onion (thinly sliced) – ΒΌ kg

  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 Β½ tbsp

  • Pepper – Β½ tsp

  • Biryani Masala – 1 tsp

  • Garam Masala – Β½ tsp

  • Chilli Powder – Β½ tbsp

  • Salt – as per taste

  • Green Chilli – 1

  • Curd – 2 tbsp

  • Mushroom (sliced) – 400 g

  • Mint Leaves – 1 cup (6 tbsp)

  • Coriander Leaves – 1 cup

  • Water – 2 cups (500 ml)

Prepared using basmati rice, mushrooms, fresh herbs, and traditional spices, this mushroom biryani is both healthy and mouthwateringβ€”easy enough to make at home in just a few simple steps 🍽️✨.

In this recipe, let’s see how to make authentic mushroom biryani at home.

Prepare the Rice

Take 1 cup of basmati rice in a bowl.

Rinse thoroughly under running water.

Add 1 cup of water, cover with a lid, and soak for 10 minutes.

Roast the Spices

In a pressure pan or cooker, add 2 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp ghee and 1 tbsp coconut oil.

Once the oil is hot, add 1 Bay leaf, 1-inch cinnamon stick, and 4 cloves.

1 star anise, add 1 mace

1 black stone flower, add 1 black cardamom.

Roast until the spices release a fragrant aroma 🌿.

Cook the Masala

Add thinly sliced onions and 1 Β½ tbsp ginger garlic paste and mix well..

Add spices: Β½ tsp pepper, and 1 tsp biryani masala.

Β½ tsp garam masala, Β½ tbsp chilli powder and Salt to taste.

Add 1 green chilli and 2 tbsp curd, mix gently.

Add Mushrooms and Rice

Add 400 g sliced mushrooms and combine with the masala.

Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan.

Mix carefully to coat the rice with the spices.

Cook the Biryani

Add 2 cups (500 ml) water and mix.

Add 1 cup mint leaves and bring to a boil.

Taste and adjust salt and spices if needed.

Cover with lid. Once steam starts releasing from the cooker, put on the weight and cook the rice.

Garnish & Serve

Once the pressure drops, open the lid.

Add chopped coriander leaves and a bunch of mint leaves.

Gently mix the biryani to fluff the rice and combine flavors.
