(Let's the World get the same Bliss that I got from our lord)
Tirumular
Prepared using kokum (the dried skin of the fruit, called Murugal in Tamil) and fresh coconut milk, solkadhi has a mildly sour taste similar to tamarind and offers many health benefits. This ice-cold drink is light, tasty, and absolutely refreshing π½οΈβ¨.
In this recipe, letβs see how to make authentic solkadhi at home in a few easy steps.
Prepare Kokum Water
In a pan, pour one glass of water and bring it to a boil.
Note: Kokum is the dried skin of the fruit (Murugal in Tamil). It tastes similar to tamarind and is widely used in Maharashtrian and Goan cuisine. It is commonly used in kokum juice, sherbet, solkadhi, and as a healthy substitute for tamarind in curries.
Once the water starts boiling, add 10β12 pieces of kokum and mix well.
Cook well, then switch off the stove.
Close with a lid, keep aside, and allow it to cool completely.
Prepare Coconut Milk
In a mixer jar, add 1 Β½ cups of grated coconut.
Add one glass of warm water and grind well.
Note: You may use normal water, but warm water helps extract more coconut milk in less time.
Strain the ground coconut using a strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl.
Grind the same coconut again with one more glass of warm water.
Strain and squeeze the cloth well to extract the remaining milk.
Season the Solkadhi
To the extracted coconut milk, add salt as per taste.
Add 1β2 crushed garlic cloves, Β½ tsp cumin powder (jeera powder) and 2 green chillies.
Pour in the prepared kokum water and mix well.
Final Touch
Add 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and mix gently.
Close with a lid and refrigerate for 15β30 minutes.
You can also consume it at room temperature if preferred.
This drink is especially good and healthy after a heavy or spicy meal πΆοΈπ.
